Born on July 9, 1973, Nitish Mishra is a distinguished Indian political leader and MLA from Jhanjharpur Constiuency of Bihar. A five-time MLA, he brings over 25 years of transformative public service, driven by inclusive development and people-centric governance.

A leader with deep academic roots, Mishra holds an MBA from FORE School of Management (New Delhi) and Maastricht School of Management (Netherlands), a PG Diploma in Global Political Economy (University of Hull, UK) as a Chevening Scholar, and a B.A. (Hons) in History (University of Delhi). He also completed Harvard Kennedy School’s Emerging Leaders Programme.

Inducted into Bihar’s Cabinet at 32 in 2005, Mishra has led key departments, blending technology with governance to enhance transparency and efficiency. He is known for presenting his views backed by data and for being a silent performer who lets his work speak for itself. His leadership earned the Rural Development Department three National Awards. Recognized for his impactful work, he received the MTV Youth Icon Award (2008) and the India–UK Achievers Award (2025).

A rare fusion of intellect, administrative expertise, and grassroots empathy, Mishra champions equitable progress. He continues shaping Bihar’s future with unwavering dedication to public welfare. His legacy reflects a steadfast belief: true development must empower every citizen.

SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS

As Minister for Sugarcane Development, Govt of Bihar, conceptualised and Introduced sugarcane incentive policy focusing on making Bihar as an Ethanol Hub and encouraged production of cogeneration power. Also made policy for revival of closed / Sick Sugar Factories (2006).

  •  As Minister for Disaster Management supervised and coordinated one of the largest rescue operations of India during Bihar Kosi Floods (2008).
  •   As Minister for Rural Development & Social Welfare was instrumental in the approval of 84 Million (US Dollars) Govt. of Bihar and World Bank ‘Bihar Integrated Social Protection and Strengthening Project’ (2014). During his Tenure Department of Rural Development, Govt. of Bihar received the following Awards from the Government of India:
  1. E-Governance Gold Award under the Skill Development and Employability category for the Project ‘SAMVIDA’ an Online Recruitment Solution for Personnel under the Indira Awaas Yojana awarded by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Government of India (2015).
  2. 1st Prize in Accountability and Transparency in MGNREGA implementation awarded by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India (2014).
  3. 2nd Prize in Convergence of MGNREGA for Livelihood awarded by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India (2014).
  • As Minister of Tourism, he transformed the department through key policy reforms and landmark initiatives, including the iconic Punaura Dham (birth place of Maa Sita) project.
  • As Industries Minister, he spearheaded significant industrial reforms that enhanced Bihar’s appeal to investors. His dynamic leadership culminated in the successful hosting of the Global Investors Summit in December 2024, which drew investment proposals totalling ₹1.81 lakh crore.
  • Visited United Kingdom on the invitation of the British Deputy High Commissioner, Kolkata to help develop synergies between the development happenings in Bihar with the bestpractices in related fields in the United Kingdom (2012).
